Concentrations
The concentration of fragrance oils determines a scent's intensity and how long it lasts.
Extrait de parfum
20 to 30% oils. The most concentrated and longest-lasting form. A few drops are enough, applied to pulse points — wrists, neck, behind the ears. Longevity: eight hours or more.
Eau de parfum (EDP)
15 to 20% oils. A balance between intensity and price. Longevity: five to seven hours. Well suited to evening and to occasions where you want a noticeable trail.
Eau de toilette (EDT)
5 to 15% oils. Lighter and fresher, suited to daytime and to warm climates such as Kinshasa's. Longevity: three to four hours. Spray more generously, and reapply if needed.
Eau de Cologne (EDC)
2 to 4% oils. Very fresh and very light. It calls for reapplication, and suits high heat particularly well.
Body mist
More diluted again. It refreshes the skin, alongside a fragrance rather than in place of one.
