Storing a fragrance
A well-stored fragrance keeps its quality for years. These rules matter all the more in Kinshasa's climate.
Keep it out of light
Ultraviolet light degrades fragrance oils. Keep bottles in their box or away from light, never on a windowsill.
Keep it out of heat
Heat accelerates oxidation. Avoid the bathroom and rooms exposed to the sun. A stable temperature, between 15 and 22 °C, is ideal; a cool cupboard is perfect.
Keep it out of humidity
Humidity can reach inside the bottle and alter the fragrance. Avoid storing your fragrances there, even closed.
Close it properly
Air degrades fragrance. Close the bottle right after use. For a bottle without a spray, wipe the neck after each use.
Shelf life
An unopened fragrance keeps for several years in good conditions. Once opened, expect three to five years for an eau de parfum, two to three for an eau de toilette. A fragrance that changes colour or turns sour should be replaced.
